Tourmaline is one of the world’s most colorful minerals. There’s surely one in your favorite color–and even in your favorite color combination, as some come in parti- and bi-color variations, giving them unique multicolored properties. It is a durable gemstone and is found in many parts of the world.

Tourmaline requires special care, as all jewels do. For example, exposure to high heat should be avoided as it may alter the stone’s color. Sudden temperature changes may cause fracturing. It is best cleaned with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth.

Tourmaline is the birthstone of October.

Care:

Tourmalines are rated 7-7.5 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, however require specific care. Avoid exposing these stones to extreme temperatures as this can cause cracking and discoloration, Watermelon Tourmalines are more susceptible to this due to their bi-color structure. Also avoid applying harsh chemicals or solvents to the stones. They are best cared for by cleaning with a warm soapy soft cloth. We recommend Tourmalines for gifts and statement pieces.
